Overview Round Table

Overview Round Table

Leaders and influencers of the space movement convene on Wednesdays at 12:00 pm ET to discuss the culture of the Overview Effect, the evolving space exploration narrative, and our collective path to the sustainable, ethical, and inclusive stewardship of the solar ecosystem.

The Overview Round Table is a small, weekly gathering of friends, volunteers, and guests who have been invited to participate. An invitation from Frank White or one of the other HSP directors is required in order to attend.

Objective

In these thoughtful and inclusive conversations, we hope to facilitate some of the following objectives.

  • Catalyzing meaningful conversation that brings clarity and incites action.
  • Fostering opportunities for collaboration.
  • Providing a safe space for discussing complex elements.
  • Clarifying action steps everyone can take for the greater good.
  • Cross-promoting and supporting community ventures and campaigns.
  • Cultivating a community where everyone feels that they belong.
  • Bolstering to the Human Space Program mission.

The Overview Roundtable is a production of the Human Space Program.

Video Consent & Release Statement

All members of the Overview Round Table are requested to view the Video Consent & Release Statement and agree, prior to attending an ORT session.

Co-hosted by

Frank White, space philosopher, author of The Overview Effect: Space Exploration and Human Evolution, Co-Founder of the Human Space Program and Jared Angaza, Executive Director of the Human Space Program.

Program

60-90 minute video calls on Zoom. They include opening/closing remarks and breakout sessions with smaller groups. Calls are recorded and will be published on our YouTube channel (soon). Notes from the calls are kept in a collaborative Google Document.

Origin

This COVID-19 “Pause” provided a great opportunity to “think outside of the planet” and look ahead to our future in the solar ecosystem. Now we're continuing that discussion as we work to contribute to a new, more interconnected normal.

Public Video Access

With the permission of the members, we record every session of the Overview Round Table. Those recordings are being edited so we can publish them publicly on our YouTube channel. This creates a way for everyone to benefit from these powerful, small group conversations.

(We edit to ensure that no sensitive information is shared publicly.)

Membership Process

The ORT is an invite-only group. We ask that you please follow these guidelines.

  1. If you would like to nominate a new ORT member, you can email us at hsp@humanspaceprogram.org.
  2. Please let us know why you want to nominate them to join and include any necessary information or links.
  3. If accepted, we will let you know, and we will add them to the ORT mailing list.

We ask that you do not invite people into the ORT or share the Zoom link, outside of this process.

Presenting at the ORT

This is the process for anyone who would like to present at the Overview Round Table.

Presenting

  • We have always held a tradition that in order to present at the ORT, the presenter must have attended at least two ORT meetings.
  • Then the presenter must send their idea for a presentation to hsp@humanspaceprogram.org to be reviewed.
  • If accepted, we will work together to schedule your presentation.

The Human Space Program leadership may bring in a special speaker on occasion when we feel it serves the community.

Preparation

  • We encourage presenters to keep their presentations to around 20 minutes and then be ready for some Q&A with the community.
  • If you are sharing a presentation such as Google Slides, Keynote, PowerPoint, etc., please be prepared to share your screen in presentation mode.
    • Remember to share your sound in Zoom if necessary.
